These are challenging times. And while there's little most of us can do to combat the coronavirus other than follow instructions, there's still much we can do as the world slows and quiets down to reconnect to our identities, ask ourselves questions about history's purpose and really deepen our understandings of the Jewish people’s unique story.
For thousands of years, from our Exodus from Egypt until today, the Children of Israel have aspired to achieve something in the world. There’s been a goal in mind and an impressively specific formula for achieving that goal for most of our history. This goal has never simply been to be “religious” or to have a nation-state but actually something far greater yet inclusive of both.
On Monday, I hope we can delve deeper into the discussion of what liberation has historically meant from a Hebrew perspective - both for our people and for humanity at large.
I wish you all a Shabbat Shalom and I looking forward to learning together with you on Monday.
