This Giving Tuesday, we ask that you support the Vision movement's work to develop a Postcolonial Jewish Feminism that can meet the needs of Hebrew women without pushing their Jewish and female identities into conflict!

• Until now, Western feminist initiatives to create change within traditional Jewish communities have largely avoided real collaboration with women actually living within those spaces. As a result, such initiatives often end up silencing the women they claim to be fighting on behalf of.
   
• Because Western feminist initiatives are generally seen by the communities they target as posing a threat to the traditional values and cultures of those communities, they too often incite a backlash that becomes even more extreme in its treatment of women's issues.
   
• The application of solutions that were originally intended for women living in a completely different cultural context has led to many of the Jewish communities that have adopted Western feminist models to suddenly be confronted with new problems.
   
• Until now, attempts to better the lives of women in Jewish communities has stemmed almost exclusively from this Western feminist approach. But this clearly hasn't been working...

So the Vision Movement is revolutionizing the approach!

In addition to our many educational initiatives, much of the work spearheaded by Sharona eshet-Kohen this year has focused on developing the application of transnational and postcolonial feminist theory to the issues most directly confronting Jewish women. These critical feminist theories provide the necessary tools to achieve the following goals for Jewish women:

1) Empowering Jewish women who see themselves as loyal to the worldview and traditions of their ancestors in order to identify which issues they want to address, and to seek solutions that stem from within their own culture.

2) Encouraging allies who wish to see change in traditional Jewish communities to understand, support, and empower women working for change within their own spaces to do so without compromising their core identities or beliefs.

3) Training a critical mass of young Jewish leaders in postcolonial feminist theory and practical organizing techniques so as to enable them to take the lead in finding solutions to some of the most pressing issues confronting women in their communities.

We believe that this approach will not only be more effective at creating real change, but will also ensure that the solutions adopted to solve contemporary issues won't serve as a catalyst for new problems.
